Your assumptions border on ridiculous
>>>Let's assume that if the "lot of people" hadn't been so generous with their time and talents that someone else would have been paid to write the software.<<<

Let's assume that there was nothing from preventing someone being paid to originate the ideas and write the code. Why didn't a paid programmer have the initiative to create original works? Is it just possible that paid programmers are about as happy about their work being directed by marketing execs as you are that you are incapable of putting forth a reasonable argument?

You make ludicrious assumptions.

>>>Someone's ability to earn a living has been reduced because of the generous instincts of someone else. The beneficiary will not be the world in general, just some very large corporations with reduced personnel costs.<<<

Someone's ability to earn a living is not dependent on OSS. It is dependent on their own initiative, skill and ability to put those qualities into action. Seems what you are really saying is that nobody should be allowed to write code unless you get something out of it. There are many rewards that are not monetary. Is your mind so narrow and so focused on greed and becoming rich that you can see nothing else?

>>>I wonder whether executives feel grateful when they get a few extra $ million in their bonus checks because of the cost savings open source has provided them. Probably not. People are usually not grateful to those they exploit.<<<

Another attempt to link OSS to the absurd. Exploiting people started long before OSS. MS exploits their customers now. The more loyal the more they get screwed. Do you think MS is thankful for thir customers? You know, executives also get these same bonuses for mass layoffs. You don't seem to mind that. You just stand on your soap box and rant and rail constantly about OSS.

So, let us in on the truth here. What really happened? Someone found an OSS project that put your work to shame? Now you carry a grudge against the choices freely made by others because your work does not stack up when compared to work freely availiable under the GPL or other OSS license?

Really, what is your beef?

You have been repeatedly challenged to name a single incident of a programmer losing their job over OSS. You have been challenged to do that, since your railing first began, by me, here on ZDNet. Yet, you are unable to show anything specific. You just rail about what you imagine. You equate your unbridled imaginings and misplaced fears with reality. Has the line that separates reality from fantasy become so blurred in your universe that you can no longer tell one from the other?

I have given you specific incidents where staff members were fired specifically because of the outrageous price of proprietary software. Do you feel better that your paid programmers caused two people to lose their job and ability to proide for their families? Is that what you want? Pay at any cost? Do you honestly you believe you have a right to free money?

How many other delusions do you suffer from?
