Don't blame the artists...
When I hear about the 'rich musicians' I get even more furious with the RIAA. WHAT A BUNCH OF BUNK! Superstars aside...the VAST majority of musicians make little or no money from CD sales.

They play long and hard in clubs and on tour dates to eke out a decent living. They are away from home for long periods of time, and work some of the crappiest hours imaginable.

This 'We are protecting the artist' is just another MYTH fostered by the RIAA to spin public opinion. It has never been PROVEN that a download has EVER resulted in a lost sale of a CD. NEVER!

If you want to really know how the record labels treat musicians, read the article by Steve Albini at http://www.negativland.com/albini.html.

For a musician to get 50 cents royalty per disc is almost unheard of unless you happen to be Brittney or Garth or one of those clones. AND...every record company expense comes out of the musician's share...before ANYTHING is paid out.

Visit Janis Ian's website http://www.janisian.com/article-internet_debacle.html to see how she...a currently touring and recording artist...feels about the whole thing. She comments that she has NEVER received a royalty statement for a positive amount.

If the industry would WAKE UP and realize that free MP3 distribution is the single BEST promotional tool that has ever existed, quit being a bunch a LAZY ASSES, and market a decent product at a fair price, this whole argument would be moot.

The day anyone can convince me that an MP3 file is the same as a CD audio file stamped into a permanent hunk of plastic with pictures and liner notes, is the day I'll eat my hat.

If you feel guilty about D-L'ing an MP3, send the artist a buck. They could probably use it more than Sony Music or Michael Eisner.

And please, PLEASE, read the articles...you NEED TO KNOW THIS STUFF!

PS...let's get copyright laws rewritten to give control back to the CREATORS...not the muscle bound marketers...
