- David Ring [and music industry] is scared
-
". . . said David Ring, vice president of Universal Music Group's eLabs division. 'A lot of people are already recognizing that we're going to have to sell a lot more singles at 99 cents in order for us to make money, and for artists to be able to make a living.' "
The royalties actually paid to the "artists" this VP of Universal is referring to are PENNIES on the . . . song. In this case, the money they are charging is only 99 cents per song.
OF COURSE they (the music industry execs) don't like the distribution model. The dominant model for years was: Charge 16-20 dollars for a mediocre CD with only two or three (out of 10 or so) songs that are worth purchasing.
NOW, people have a choice and can buy JUST the songs they want. Ain't technology good---sometimes?
The genie is out of the bottle. Music industry sloths are worried. They should be. They've been riding the coat tails and sucking off the creativity of IP providers (musicians and artists) for years. The eMusic paradigm will send the vast majority of them to the Unemployment line if all goes well. - Posted by: brian ansorge Posted on: 12/09/03 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
