Oh, jeez...
Microsoft...GET A PR FIRM. IMMEDIATELY. Or, just START LISTENING to the one you've got.

OK, here's what's gonna happen: by making all this fuss and commotion, Microsoft will draw attention to Lindows all the more, and it will suddenly be fashionable among the entire planet's teenage geek population to install Lindows. You know this crowd: the kids with their Marilyn Manson tees and stocking caps and skateboards who like to collect 'Magic: The Gathering' trading cards and write indecipherable things in DayGlo spray paint on your garage door in the dead of night (come to think of it, they're not all that different from you and I when we were 15). This whole deal will create another underground cultural phase among the kids, who will view installing Lindows as the moral equivalent to flipping off Mom and Dad via flipping off Mom and Dad's Computer Industry proxy, Bill Gates. Lindows sales will skyrocket as a result of the cultural backlash, especially in Europe, where Americans Who Are Wealthy and Powerful aren't perceived very fondly at the moment.

All this draconian frenzy on Microsoft's part concerning an insignificant little startup like Lindows will do nothing but blow up in Microsoft's face, and any decent PR person will advise them so. If they would just ignore it, chances are that Lindows would simply dry up and blow away on its own in a year or two, without significantly denting Redmond's sales.
