Hardware isn't my problem
The problem still stands that there is a bit of a windows addiction out there. The newest example is putting out ATM machines with windows xp in them and then getting a virus. Windows it the last thing you should put in an ATM machine and the reason they did it is because BA asked for it. In the end the customer gets what they want, and they will want what they are familiar with regardless of the consequences. That brings us back to my original point. My customers are the employees that work for my particular branch of government. What happens is they go to a seminar or some other similar work place and see some new fangled way of doing something on the computer and come back and demand it (notice I don't say ask). In the end they get what they want most of the time and it isn't always a good thing. Most of this stuff is made by small software companies who hardly have the resources to support the windows version much less create a Linux version. I currently have a problem with some software used by the fire department. I've spent the last few months working with one of the developers of the software to fix the problem but have had no success so far. Now maybe the smart thing is to look at a different software but the customer (the firemen) are familiar with this software and don't want to change, and the customer gets what they want. Linux is in a war and the biggest battle to win is with the non-computer type users. It's the guy who can't cut and paste that will drive what desktop is used not the technology department.
