Piracy has existed since the dawn of time
People I know (ahem) have actually NEVER paid for any OS, NEVER paid for Office apps, NEVER paid for security apps, and SELDOM paid for games - yet they have had computers since the beginning. Its viewed as a challenge - to match wits with the software companies and defeat them at their own game. The Chinese are different because their COMPANIES pirate software, whereas mostly private citizens pirate in the USA. Netscape ALMOST survived by giving their software away for free for personal use, and selling it to corporations. This paradigm works well, and if the Chinese followed it, we would be grumbling, NOT SCREAMING about how they are ripping us off.
