I used to be an admin - now I'm "upstream" in the corporation, no more 24/7/365. I know EXACTLY what you are saying here. I would defend my users just as stongly as you advocate. The issue is this - too much information and not enough investigation. If you saw ALL of the system vulnerabilities as soon as they were discovered, you would need to investigate each one YOURSELF and determine what to do. You would have to assign "levels" of vulnerability and make judgements on scant info of whether to pull the plug or not. It takes time for the community (company) to digest information and to come up with a response. How long does that take? Oh, it could take a few minutes or a few months. Many beaurocracies would like to move slow, while people like you want to move fast - how to rectify these extremes. Either you cause a fight by choosing ONE of the extremes, or you form a consensus by choosing something in the middle. 30 days COULD kill you, but you could be dead before you even know it OR it may NEVER kill you. Raw information is always unpredicatable . . .
