stealing ????
reverse engeneering is the right word

the Linux community needed windows compatibility (samba for instance) but also compatibility with other major OS's (SOLARIS) so what they did is reverse engeneering, which is allowed in the United States but much more prohibited here in Europe.

NTFS and especially NTFS 2000 is a proprietary format and has been reverse engineered by the Samba people. You can also consider this as stealing.

it would have been more interesting to write another filesystem driver for windows, which could then hack into the Linux boxes. And then proof that it is better.

concerning the famous statistics in servers. effectively Linux but also FreeBSD, OpenBSD and NetBSD a doing a good job and are at least as important as LINUX, but we are talking about webservers.

If you talk about enterprise portals (intranet and extranet) the majority is Windows servers
