I've seen many innovations held back
I've seen carborators for cars held back some 20 years only to appear to today that reduced fuel consumption.

But that's just one example that doesn't apply to my point. My point is innovation occurs and sure we may be satisfied with it. But it could be so much more.

An Analogy. You have dial-up and are happy with it by not knowing how Broadband is. But once you taste broadband you never go back to dial-up.

That's my point. Patents and copyrights don't stop innovation but they slow it in my opinion. Slowing innovation is good though for business. Costs less and allows more profit to be made off ideas by restricting the flow of innovations.

Open source has an advantage by not having to make those profits by having a product strectch over period of time. The next version can come out tomorow.

Now proprietary software has to compete with this but patent fights for example hinder(not stop) thier ability to innovate new solutions.
