If they're going to take the "trade secret" route
Then they're in serious trouble. Reverse engineering is a completely legal way to divine trade secrets.

The fact is that the "keys" that Hollywood is blathering about were at best hidden under a fake rock by the front door and at worst actually hanging in the door lock itself.

However, the whole analogy completely falls apart because Hollywood in this case sold the "house" that they're trying to claim ownership of. The doctrine of first sale and probably applicable Norwegian laws are quite permissive in what you can do with a creative work after you purchase it. Copyright only restricts redistribution (and concentrates on commercial redistribution to boot) of a copyrighted work and has no bearing whatsoever on what a person does with a legally purchased copy of a copyrighted work. If it did have effect do you think they would have lobbied so hard for the DMCA?
