Re: Off again
"Just a few clarifications, "Chad". Microsoft SW is not only a great OS, it happens to be the most popular in the world..."

First, "Microsoft SW" is not a known OS. You may have meant XP, 2000, or even Mellenium Edition, which would have helped up peg your cerdibility even further if you had specified.

Second, there was a time when the Pinto was the fastest selling car in the US. Once it was discovered that they tended to blow up on impact, thie trend reversed. Windows is in the same dangerous territory at the momment.

"Your data is as good as your "predictions". Intel has invested billions into Linux since 1998 with their investment in RedHat. You are merely, off by 350%, about where expected."

Your point here was? Was it that Intel has been interested in Linux for 7 years instead of 2 so this makes the rest of his post trash? I would think that the longer term committment would bolster his argument. It ceretainly does not help yours.

Public, retail adoption of Linux support is slow, but it is starting to pop up in interesting places. If it ever becomes jsut as easy to buy a Linux computer at Best Buy, Circuit City, or CompUSA as it is to buy a Windows system, expect bigger dents in the MS armor. It is not just the availability, it is the availability plus everything else.

Some people have said that Linux on consumer systems will never take off as there is no killer app to make people change. Well the final straw may just be the lack of an app that is a killer. Lack of malware plus ease of use plus easy avaiability could be the equation Linux has been looking for. It is also suddenly within the grasp of the manufacturers and the buying public.
