I can't think of an OS that is easier to install than Windows.. I guess this is just personal opinion, but please.. provide example(s) where Linux was easier to install. My experience is Linux has some issues with older hardware that Windows doesn't have (of course, Windows has its problems sometimes, but I've never seen trouble with a sound card not work at all in a 9x + version of Windows..)..

User friendly.. absolutely not. I can provide several examples where Linux is counterintuitive and really, a baffling ordeal to use compared to Windows.

To each his own, but I see no compelling reason to abandon Windows for any flavor of Linux, at least on the desktop. Stability is very good in XP, and security is improving all the time. With a good AV package, firewall, and timely patching, you are pretty safe.
