Lighten Up?
Sure, I will lighten up. As soon as I am given a mandate by my CFO that we need to upgrade storage at a significant cost to the company so that you can have elf bowling in your inbox!

And if the cost exceeds your annual salary, are we free to take it? By your rationale the company should pay for personal postage, gasoline and oil changes for your car (you use it to drive to work), long distance phone calls.

Companies or primarily in the business of making money. Part of that is having a happy workforce. But a bigger part of that is keeping costs under control. If we can hold off an upgrade of an e-mail system for an extra year that saves us a lot of money.

BTW, our company has no need or want for people to work "12-14" hours a day. 40 a week is perfectly fine.
