I think as time goes on, you're going to find this
position increasingly difficult to sustain. Gateway
and eMachines are not business-oriented
companies. They cater to home users who want
simple, cheap equipment.
Perhaps you might try learning how to run an *nix
OS as a server and a desktop environment. Frankly,
I find that there are plenty of useful apps available
for that platform and it's far more secure than
