An honest discussion
What a rational discussion

This is a refreshing rational discussion regarding Linux in the marketplace. Too often people have been emotionally attached to ____ sucks while ___ rocks (insert your own OS/software/etc. of choice in the blanks). In reality as the Linux product goes through product lifecycle it will go through numerous growth phases until it is regarded as a possible product substitute by all users.

Remember the days when PC?s were just for hobbyists and garage enthusiasts? Then some of those enthusiasts realized ?Hey we could make some money from this!?

Finally the indemnification program is probably a marketing tool of HP, but if it works, good for them. Regardless of whether SCO?s claims are legit or not, IP infringement and legal liability have to be factored into the TCO of using Linux for an enterprise. Any CIO that doesn?t consider even slight liability is missing the big picture and should take a few more management classes.
