Nice twist of his words
Just a couple of issues with your statements

"OSS projects by their nature are replication of existing apps and technology and so are catchup products."

Apache is a catchup project?

Bind, FTP, SSH, etc., in other words most of the technology and protocols that run the internet are catch up projects?

While much of OSS today is active in providing users with a full suite of tools to replace MS for amny of us on the desktop, much of OSS is not. Much is original, innovative and true to the original goals of open development where cool stuff was made and cool stuff was shared.

"Is this Newspeak?
The 'slave' is paid?
Uncompensated labor sets you free?
When there are open source mortgages and grocery stores where uncompensated farmers stock the shelves with their produce, just for the sheer joy, only then will I agree."

Nowhere in George's statements did he compare the "slave" to the paid developer. What he did say is there are two kinds of free labor. Slavery and volunteer. There is a big difference. Volunteers generally choose to give their efforts away because they enjoy their work and want to share. Slaves have no choices but to work or die.

Try facing instead of obscuring the facts next time.
