Happy, cheap skivvies
You must be grateful to those companies which are willing to let the volunteers fulfill themselves. The companies which make a larger profit because they don't have to pay for the labor that makes profits for them.

Those companies are willing to magnify the good work of the volunteers. They can use reduced cost software to assure layoffs all through the IT infrastructure. Thousands of people able to spend more time with their families, joyous until the unemployment benefits run out.

Yes, this is truly a gift to all.
