Stupid, clueless company
People abandoned Red Hat in DROVES when they split off Fedora. Remember, they CLOSED the access to their server offering BEFORE they had an alternative. In the days and months before Fedora appeared, people panicked and went to other distros. The arrogant, corporate a*sholes that run Red Hat wanted to become the M$ of Linux - which they almost did - but anyone that had to deal with them in a corporate environment were turned off. They blew the opportunity they had with the largest company in the world named for its founder - with pissy little threats and demands for money up front. If YOU were trying to get in with a large company, would you be generous with the temporary licenses, or would you keep a tight reign on strictly purchased licenses? Red Hat made the wrong choice, and it became apparent that Red Hat BECAME the wrong choice for a distro. Man, who is RUNNING that company, and can he be fired?
