Using uncooporative Microsoft as a role model?
Sun's hubris is going to drive them into the ground. They are throwing their weight around as if they are a Microsoft, but they aren't. They are losing money, and Linux is seriously undercutting their business.
They don't like the name Eclipse because of its meaning, as in solar eclipse, but if they don't take it seriously that is exactly what it is going to do. SWT, the foundation of Eclipse, which I'm surprised was not mentioned in the article, is far superior to Swing, and it is only Sun's ego and stubbornness that is preventing SWT from making it into the standard Java distribution. They are trying to railroad us into using Swing because they own Java, just like Microsoft likes to railroad into using whatever their latest technology is because they own the OS, Office, and just about everything else. Microsoft can afford to act like this, but nobody else really can. Sun, you are no Microsoft (which we should be thankful for), so stop acting like it!
