Eclipse rules...
I can see why it would be expensive for Sun to
convert their NetBeans features to Eclipse, and
then rebuild their commercial product on top of
that.

That's a shame. There are some really nice
features in NetBeans. Nevertheless, Eclipse is
the clear winner out of the two open-source
IDE's. Eclipse is fast and powerful and has
many free/commercial plug-ins.

Eclipse uses the SWT framework for its GUI
components, while NetBeans, JBuilder, IntelliJ,
etc. all use Swing. Sorry guys, but Swing
sucks! It is the one area when most users find
disappointment with Java. SWT is much faster
and has the native look of the OS (99.999% of
all users absolutely want this).

If you have ever said "Java applications aren't
fast". What you meant to say is "Swing
applications aren't fast". SWT applications are
native speed. There is a new Java GUI
technology in town, and Sun knows they can't
ignore that. I guess they still plan on
conforming to the superior design in the future.
