The RIAA states that it received an average of $3,000 in it's 220 settlements, which totals $660,000. Since the lawsuits are based on copyright infringement, and since the RIAA has records of what these individuals downloaded (i.e. the song titles and artists), then doesn't this mean that the RIAA owes royalties to the artists on the money collected? Have they categorized all the songs and artists downloaded and figured out how much each artist involved should receive of the money collected based on the royalties owed? Or is the RIAA's settlements based solely on what they believe to be their own losses without taking into consideration of royalties owed to artists? It's hard to tell when law suits are settled out of court.
I do know the answer already as to how much the artists have received of the money collected....nothing.
They could at least back up their claims of how P2P users are ripping off artists by distributing some of that settlement money back to the rightful owners. Just a thought. - Posted by: master of illusion Posted on: 12/04/03 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
