Interesting posts I suppose...
When I read through the posts I begin to see why reporters are finding it difficult to get and do interviews. It is obvious there are "certain" people that do not want to hear anything positive about this exec. or that exec. An example; anytime The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation makes a charitable contribution to ANYTHING these "certain" people show up ranting and foaming at the mouth like crazed zealots on a full moon night. They simply lack the cognitive ability to understand no one and no thing is all good or all bad. (Heck even the Pope makes mistakes.) This lacking of ability makes it impossible for them to read an interview and make any sound judgment on the topic, instead they simply start ranting.

So how does that effect the reporter? Simple, less than great reporters cater to this small vocal group. They take an honest interview, toss out anything positive, accent anything negative or inject their own negative spin on it, and toss it out for consumption as "news". (The National Enquire has done it for decades and built a massive reader base. It does work.)

If you read through most (Yes ZDNet that means you) tech articles about MS doing ANYTHING positive, you will only need read to the next sentence to see the reporter saying why it's bad. MS says they are introducing product XYZ (Halo-2) and the reporter MUST find something negative to say. "Yeah it's good, but they aren't putting Sony out of business". Of course should MS actually put a competitor out of business screams of monopoly will soon follow. The strange part is no one bothers to explain how having the desktop market has anything to do with a game console, but the zealots eat it up like candy.

Given this set of "rules" (find the dirt or make some up) why would any exec. grant an interview? Why put their personal self (or their spouse) in a position to be called names (read the posts above) or place their company in the same position? The answer is they don't or if they do they limit it to specific subjects.

Truly a case of sleeping in the bed you made...
