Okay, I'll tell you why.
Because OpenOffice has to run inside X11. This is almost like running another OS. You have to use the control key instead of the command key, menus are attached to Windows, text-selecting behaviors are different, folder navigation is extremely crude, and it's just plain hard to get used to. Besides, it's butt-ugly. If somebody made a nice Aqua interface for it, I'd buy it. As it is I rarely use it for free.
