I must've slept through Law 101
Actually, it wasn't a required course for physics majors back in the Dark Ages. It's just that, to the uninitiated, this move looks open source-neutral.

Trying to understand. Okay, there are any number of freeware offerings, like on Tucows. Presumably, the authors could contribute the source code to open source if they so chose. Does this licensing now prohibit such contribution?

Or is it that the information published reveals evidence of patents or copyrights that would now serve to pre-empt an author from publishing his or her work.

This is not meant as a disagreement, but a tired ole brain trying to follow the twists and turns. [Or maybe I'm going back to my science roots, where everyone was encouraged to publish as the principal way to advance knowledge and ideas.]

Thanks in advance for any enlightenment.
