A good point.
Yes, Linux has ceased to be the expression of a philosophy and has become a (complicated) way to make money.
I agree with this point in particular, but a number of your other observations are also valuable.

These companies, especially IBM and its camp followers like HP, have already taken up free software, mostly as a way to save costs. That is in fact what has given open source credibility in the market for Unix replacements (or clones, if you like).

Other companies are attempting to make a profit on open source directly. Most obviously, they are adding proprietary aspects.
I think Mr. Stallman would not approve. Companies making money can hire employees and pay them reasonably good salaries. That's a violation of everything open source stands for, the dashing of his fondest hopes.
I can live with that.
