Windoze XP Media Center
While I'm not usually an "early adopter" any more, as that's a good way to get burned, when I finally decided to abandon the Mac platform last year because it just didn't have enough software support, I went with a Hewlett-Packard Media Center PC (Black Friday deal in November 2003).

While things could always be better, I'm reasonably pleased with what I get. I don't have Tivo, or any direct experience with it, but from what I know of it, my Media Center seems to be somewhat Tivo-like, and it gives me another option for recording, as I have basic cable run through it, and my Cable box hooked to a VCR, so I can simultaneously record two different shows, on those rare occasions there are three things I want to watch.

The one stumbling block so far is figuring out how to "Archive" some of my favorite shows, like "Lost" to DVD, but I'm working on it.

The particular HP model I got (M376n) didn't include the FM card, which I wish it had, so I don't get to take advantage of the radio features of Media Center. But all in all, I'm still reasonably pleased with what I have... Of course I haven't really LOOKED at what else is available since, because I don't want to give myself a chance to have "buyer's regret," which is ALWAYS a possibility with a computer -- especially more than three months or so after you buy it.

This is doing nicely for now. I just need more hard drive storage, and/or more discipline in deciding what to delete after I watch it happy
