Exactly WRONG
What the living room needs is a large screen (wait, WAIT I DIDN'T say "tv" yet), a "box" (cable box, or MMPC), and self-amplified speakers.

The large screen should have ALL inputs (RCA, S-Video, Component Video, DVI, etc.), and turn itself on when it detects a video signal.

The self-amplified speakers would use either power-cord networking or wireless networking.

The "box" would control everything. At its simplist, it would be a WiMAX router with a browser that connects to streaming video portal sites (the WiMAX steamroller). A Linux "Myth TV" box could be used for example.

Notice that the Stereo and "TV" parts of the big screen are not here? No REASON for them anymore! If you DON'T take the "tv" parts out of the big screen, you AT A MINIMUM MUST send a signal to power it on (channel 3 - like my TV has been tuned to for 20 years). This means multiple remotes - which just SUX! Some manufacturer will figure out the wisdom of my vision - you can sell a big screen CHEAPER without all the tv "trappings" (built-in tuner and speakers and whatever else).

Why self-amplified speakers? Simple - you can plug them in ANYWHERE - no cords, except the power cord (could be battery operated without cords at all). Makes for a MUCH LESS CLUTTERED living room, and lets ANYONE set up (and take down!) a home theatre quickly and easily.

This new paradym bodes badly for those companies! Why buy a "Sony", when all you get is a screen? Heck APEX can make THAT! No more CD players, DVD players, VCRs, TiVOs, Stereos, etc. doesn't quite appeal to Sony and Hitachi . . .
