The DRM spin once and for all..
You know it amazes me how "ME" of a generation we live in currently. Every notice how spoiled and selfish folks are in their mode of thought?

From what I gather is everyone what's something for free, what you pay for you want unrestricted license to do whatever you want (which would including making unlimited copies) and they think everything is a right somehow...oh yeah and everything is a conspiracy.

First , to me it takes too much valuable time and energy getting so upset as a lot of people display all over the Internet, in magazines even select tv programs over DRM issues and the like. Life's too short for that stuff.

Second, of course companies will try and protect their profits -- why is this so hard it seems for folks to understand the concept?

If I produced music or movies, etc. I'd want my profits safe-guarded too....as well as my intellectual property rights.

Now I'm split a bit on this issue -- I feel both sides...one if I buy a program/cd/dvd, etc. I don't need some company telling me how and when I can use/watch/listen to it.

At the same time - why should I have the free reign or "right" to copy it as often as a I want? How do they know I'm an ethical person that won't sell copies for cheap to others or better yet just hand out free copies to people?

I'll give you a hint, the reason and the ONLY reason copy protection/DRM exists at all is because its impossible for a company to "read" a person is trustworthy and ethical enough to not abuse the product they purchased ONE TIME to pass onto others.

Why is this a hard concept for so many to understand?

So then when would I get really mad....

When I'm not allowed to make any copies for myself for the use of using it on another machine (home computer and work computer)....

When I can't make a backup copy to protect my investment (I like not touching original copies, and using the backups only...this way if the backup gets scratched, etc. no biggie)

When there is a limit to how many times I can re-install a music/movie/program file that was purchased solely through the web and downloaded.

That's about it.

Other than that most of the excuses for pirating / against DRM are just that...excuses.

People like getting stuff for free. Its a no-brainer and that's the REAL reason people hate the copy-protection/DRM stuff.
