New Processor in the Xbox 2
Anyone that thinks they can run the same Linux on the Xbox 2 as they do on the original Xbox needs to do a little checking. I'm not saying it can't be done, but the Xbox 2 will have IBM's G5 chip in it, thus Linux would need to be refitted to work on it. Now, there's various versions of Linux that work on Apple hardware, so it shouldn't be difficult, yet it will be different.

As an aside, has anyone found various events happening at the same time to be leading to one possibility? Xbox 2 runs on a G5. The new chips from IBM will be able to run two operating systems off the same chip (thus not dual boot, but dual operating). Is it a big leap to get to an Apple machine that can run OS X and Windows at the same time? I know this suggestion will be heretical to a lot of the Mac faithful, but think about it. It certainly would make it a lot easier for businesses to shift to Mac OS, if they could have both OSes running on the same hardware for while. Then as they upgraded their software, they can simply upgrade to the Mac versions.

I wouldn't be surpised that unless Longhorn gets huge widespread adoption within the first year or so, it will be the last version of Windows that Microsoft produces. They are continually going toward web based, service orientated, and communications work. It would definitely be a fundamental shift in their philosophy (keep Windows a monopoly so everything else they can sell make the real money), but it could happen.
