This is all about lock-in, they won't make any money here.
They are desperate to create more reasons why you can't switch to the Mac or Linux. If they can spend a few billions on home entertainment and create a little more Windows lock-in, so much the better. But, all of the consumer electronic companies do not want to have anything to do with Microsoft. If they let Microsoft control the software, then Microsoft can vacume all of the profit out leaving them with nothing.
