Java is a completely viable technology -- sounds like you have your Microsoft blinders on and are completely unaware of what is going on out in the industry. Why do you think large corporations and governments run their infrastructure on UNIX-based systems with Oracle & J2EE/Java technologies?

Wow are you going to have a rude awakening someday! Do yourself a favor and at least stay open to things you are not knowledgable about outside the Microsoft container.
