what i did to solve the problem
and not what might fit everyone of course. I removed all of the IE programs other than Windows Update(i run through SUS anyways so it never physically hits anything but our local server for patches). I installed firefox on all these machines, imported all their favorites into bookmarks and none of them are smart enough to know to do the start run iexplore. I changes the FireFox icons to the little blue E of IE. Now every user clicks on the blue E and has no clue they are running firefox, as in they never read the title anyways. I have found the occasional user who notices the .htm and .html has a different icon than the E, but i say it works just the same, and no problems. I haven't had to go around fixing slow machines due to spyware by simply removing most access to IE(other than the windows update via SUS), though i'm sure alexa is running rampant on the machines none the less thanks to MS.

As i said, it's a fix for me, but might not be for everyone. It's just easier to allow users to think they are using the same thing when they are not. Did the same with OOo and never looked back, it fit our needs just fine. The only office app i can't find a similiar product for to use our database was Access, so every computer still has an access 97 license. Still saved alot of money going the route i did.
