Its about diversification
The essential difference between Linux and Windows is that Linux is a flexible, secure and stable platform on which an infintely diverse range of useful applications can be built, whereas Windows is not a platform for anything any more, it is a one size-fits-all monolithic hodge-podge of GUI, low level functionality and high level Microsoft proprietary applications, all deliberately co-mingled in a software engineering nightmare whose principal purpose is to lock out third party competition and render all other OS's as non-interoperable as possible.

The GUI can't be removed, IE (with its 23 unpatched security holes) cannot be removed, and it has taken the EU's latest court ruling to force Microsoft to even properly document the APIs on their server products, at least in Europe.

Windows is increasingly an inferior product. It is inferior in the security domain, it is inferior in the stability domain, and it is inferior in the real-time, scalability and performance domains. Only Microsoft sponsored "studies" have ever indicated otherwise, and when a company spends millions of dollars on "studies" and advertising only to have those "studies" and adverts yanked in the UK because they are un-truthful and deliberately deceitful ... if this company sold medicine or cars instead of software, people would be dying every day as a result of their corporate greed and lies.
