Bullies R Us
A lot of us see MS the same way much of the world sees the US: as a large, overbearing, unprincipled, bully on an institutional testosterone high.

As far as I'm concerned, the company is philosophically repugnant, exhibiting all the manners and morals of a street gang. They lie, they cheat, they intimidate, all in the name of greed, and deserve every bit of contumely heaped upon them, and more. MS seems to want the whole computing pie, leaving not a sliver for anyone else; their entire corporate ethic seems to be one of avarice

The day MS stops trying to insinuate itself, by any means it finds useful, regardless of who it hurts, into every aspect of computing, is the day I will desist in my condemnations of the company.

Unlike MS, those of us who espouse alternatives to MS are not megalomaniacly trying to rid the world of our competitors. We're not trying to deprive MSCEs or Windows coders of their jobs. But to all appearances, MS wouldn't hesitate a millisecond to abolish a programming environment I've spent twenty-three years getting good at. We're not trying to deny anyone the use of Windows. We (I, at least) just think that environment is too simplistic, too limiting, and ill-suited to the way we think. If Windows matches your style, great. But that doesn't mean everyone ought to be compeled to use it.

So, between philosophical contempt for the company, and fear of its power and apparent willingness to abuse it, a lot of haven't many kind words to say of MS.
