IMHO Patents Are the Forthcoming Battlefield...
... between monopolists, like M$, and the FOSS community. I'm unsure how to combat this through a license (perhaps the way is as Perens said), though.

I applaud any attempt to make the GPL more corporate friendly. I am trying to introduce our organisation to the idea of Open Source software and our higher management equate (simplistically and inaccurately, please note) FOSS == GPL. Then I have to get into explanations (always bad, in an executive's eyes) and then it becomes a harder sell.

The problem Stallman has is trying to write a license that adheres to the underlying spirit of the GPL, but not be alien to executives such as the ones I have tried to convince. Then again, some of the executives I have tried to convince are still flummoxed by Jane and Peter books ("Look Jane. See Spot. Run, Spot, run.")

I hope it works because the IP steamroller is coming our way...

The Banjo.
