My statement was actually meant as a compliment to Microsoft's marketing department.

As a result of their efforts most people truly believe that Microsoft builds best in class software. (Most I.T. professionals, on the other hand, know that a great number of Microsoft's products actually fall into the "good enough" catagory.)

This makes it much more difficult to sell upper management on the best solution for a given business need when it involves purchasing/using a non-Microsoft product.
