Calendar+ Skype, Thunderbird + Bittorrent
Let me have a go at arguing why Calendar/Meeting functionality and Email don't really mix.

A meeting consists of:

A Method:
1. Video Conferencing
2. Instant messaging
3. Face to face
4. Voice over IP / Telephone
5. Booking a meeting room

A time property:
1. Now
2. Some agreed time on a Calendar.

A participants property:
1. Two or more people

Email isn't used for meetings because of its queued nature. It doesn't fit nicely into the 'method'. It has a deferred nature - its not real time, so it doesn't have the 'time' property about it either.
It's also not good at passing scheduling messages. How many times have you missed a meeting because you didn't check your email for the notification. Or worse, how many times has your concentration been broken by a minor email because you have to run email notification all the time so as not to miss important meetings?

Compare that to Instant Messaging, instant messaging has the same participants properties, is used for meetings and is thereofre a better fit.

Therefore I would argue that Mozilla would be better making a 'meetings' app built around a sort of Skype.

I'd really like to see Thunderbird go towards more improved searches, mining old emails.
And also bulk file exchanging (perhaps with a p2p element).
So for example you email 10 people with a large data file and its passed between them using a p2p system.

The limit on attachments in email seems to be an area for improvement and p2p seems to fit better with that.
