Re: MS is using the same defense for Outlook
Microsoft's confidence comes from the fact that their greatest asset is the clueless user. And as P.T. Barnum observed, there is one born every minute.

Corporate America is in love with Microsoft Outlook and like most, our managers demand it. Of course, all they use it for is email and occasionally a personal calendar. What little shared calendars we have is handled by Meeting Maker.

And despite what we suggest most Outlook users continue to send their mail as Rich Text. So we have to convert it to plain text on the server, and extract any attachments from that d@mn winmail.dat file that outlook uses before sending it to the receiptant. And we do the same for any mail coming in from Outlook users.

All this is done to avoid the complaints from many of our customers that they cannot open the attachments sent from our managers.

Fortunately the bulk of our email is send from our hourly associates and does not require any special handling to avoid problems.

They use Thunderbird.
