What on earth is happening at Microsoft. Does Balmer actually have a clue about managing people and ensuring that all managers are on the same page and singing the same tune?

I'll put money on it that John Caroll will come out claiming that this is Microsoft "committed to security". If Microsoft was "committed to security", they wouldn't have designed the win32 api so flawly. The NT kernel is a fundamentally secure design, thanks to the influence from VMS which Cutler bought from DEC to Microsoft, by the win32 api sucks big rocks. Fix the win32 api and you'll fix 99% of Windows problems.

Microsoft unfortunately doesn't want to accept the fact that their design if flawed and don't want to accept that something they regard as "legacy" and backwards, aka, UNIX 98, is old and crusty, yet, isn't riddled from any of the fundamental architectural flaws that riddle win32.
