The command line's still there in Linux.
Linux doesn't have to be all GUI, even with distributions like Mandrake (my personal fave at the moment). In fact, Mandrake does make a very respectable enterprise server that uses an extremely hardened kernel and other good security features.

I think the main reason Linux is becoming so popular is that it can be whatever you want it to be. You're a newbie who needs to get to know Unix slowly and carefully? Use Mandrake or RedHat. Want a specialized, highly customizable version? Slackware or Debian. Need a recovery CD? Knoppix is knice. Et cetera, et cetera...

Not to say BSD is bad, mind you... I just don't think that Linux is really going the Way of Windows.
