Mine is a very large organization, over 200,000 users. We have one of the largest site licenses, and seemingly very favorable prices. But when you look at the cost of those licenses as a line item, you see that they exceed the cost of developing or upgrading several essential business systems.

Okay, we're on Office 2000 now - you might say that we and Microsoft are in a bit of a Mexican standoff position. The question becomes, what do we do when 2000 is no longer supported. Customers and financial controllers are less-than-delighted at the prospect of a future big expenditure for no value added. Will we be permitted to stay with Microsoft?

I guess the answer has in large part to do with what they can do with the product between now and 2000's end of life. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
