Didn't Lotus do that 3 years ago?
I'm sure I saw some IBM product demo back about 3 and half years ago that did the exact thing you described.

It was too costly though for the functionality it provided. It looks like Microsoft can pull this off better since people already use MS office and Windows servers. Adding SharePoint services could be easily done. I wonder what it costs?
