Oracle needs to support DB2? You don't get it.
Oracle might lose money if they kacked non-Oracle databases on PS and tried to make up the revenue on Oracle sales to be used to run PS. However, Oracle doesn;t want to own the PS back-end, Oracle wants to own the entire DB sales in the large organizations which use PS. Most organizations do not wnat to have a mix of DB2, Oracle, Sybase, etc. Whichever group of DBAs is closest to the seat of power will eventually force everything which uses a RDBMS to use the same vendor.

Oracle will win by killing or severly crippling support for PS on non-Oracle RDBMSes because PS support is in finanacial, the people who fund all the other projects.

Of course, if you believe that old myth about business people selecting the best product for the specific application, you can envision an organization happliy supporting mulitple RDBMSes. That's not how real suits operate. They like simple, one-vendor "solutions" they can understand.
