It's not so much about developing the technology, believe it or not MS is a lot further along than they are saying.

I don't believe it. Microsoft historically delivers less than it promises.


How about an all out attack on the patents they hold for FAT? Hmmm, destroy that patent ,and the ones on top of it start falling apart too. (As in new patents on WinFS.)

I don't believe this either. It's like saying you can't patent a tread design unless you also have a patent on the wheel.


Why does this concern them? Well besides the ton of money from licenses, it would also mean others (open source maybe?) might be able to duplicate it and MS would have no legal recourse.

There's a whole array of open source files systems from which you can choose according to your needs. Many of them are light years ahead of Microsoft's offerings. Don't you get bored endlessly repeating nonsense?
