Hey, Butterball, Linux can do lots of useful stuff ...
you just have to work a little harder to make it happen. And that's my point. Some people want Microsoft to do the extra work for them, but they don't like it when they have to pay for it. SURE, Microsoft overcharges. SURE Microsoft has been an unfair competitor. But so what? There ARE options, and in spite of what the Ax grinder might insinuate, they ARE viable. EXAMPLE - There are several perfectly good acounting programs available for Linux. I am using one of them quite successfully. It does not only basic accounting, but POS with inventory control and the whole nine yards. And it works as well or better than QuickBooks Pro which I have used before, and it is completely open with an open SQL database behind it. But it DOESN'T have the built in templates and setup wizards that make QuickBooks so easy to use. So I had to go out and buy some Accounting for Dummies books to figure out how to make it work. It took EXTRA effort on my part. I AM NOT complaining about that. That was my choice. The guy that buys Windows makes a choice to and he shouldn't be allowed to get away with publicly pretending to be some kind of victim as if someone held a gun to his head and FORCED him to buy Windows. Anybody can use an alternative, it just takes some initiative. There are thousands of niche apps that are of course available only for Windows, but most of people can live without these. If you are unwilling to make any sacrifices, then by all means, use Windows, and don't complain about being abused. Just be thankful that Windows does make them available.

You obviously haven't upgraded a Linux kernel  George Mitchell | 12/04/04
We agree on one point.  No_Ax_to_Grind | 12/05/04
