Wrong ...
what you are espousing is the Microsoft doctrine itself. That doctrine (of making business decisions based on how they effect the competition) is fundamentally flawed, both economically and morally. You don't build your business by plotting on how to cut off your competitor's air supply. Microsoft has gottent themselves in plenty of trouble doing just that, and now you are arguing that Oracle should take the same approach? Wrong, wrong, wrong! Oracle's support for Windows is NOT going to endanger Oracle. What would endanger Oracle would be if they would DROP support for Linux. They would then make themselves captive to the Windows platform. And that is exactly what Unisys discovered. By offering Linux support AND contributing to Linux, Unisys is guaranteeing that they will never be beholden to Microsoft. They are running a business the way it should be run, which is to make money whereever it can be made, rather than running a business in order to pursue an agenda. The customers choice between whether they will use a Windows OR Linux platform should be based on things like suitability to the task and overall cost effectiveness, NOT on availability. The more competitive the market is, the better for all involved. And what you are advocating here is NOT a competitive marketplace.
