Fanatic allegiances are toxic for businesses ...
Why should any company sell their soul to Microsoft? OR TO THE FREE SOFTWARE COMMUNITY? Businesses should operate in order to make money so that their employees (and their families) can have food and a roof over their heads. It is not the purpose of businesses to advance and promote a particular product or business model. They owe it to their employees to do their best to make money whereever that money can be made. So hats off to Oracle for embracing Windows. They can sell and Windows product AND a Linux/Unix product with equal ferver. It is the customer that is paying the freight, and it is the customer that deserves to have a choice. AND hats off to Unisys for finally embracing Linux. There are plenty of customers out their lining up for their Linux offering and that will be money in their pockets. Even free software developers should be more willing to develop their products for the Windows platform. Hats off to the Mozilla and OpenOffice organizations for doing just that. And if Microsoft is smart, they will get off of their Windows horse and start making more products for Linux. Why should they care how the product in question gets used? If they offer Linux products and price them fairly, the customer will pay, and the money will be just as green as the money they get from their Windows customers. I look forward to the day when they wake up and discover that their competitor can also be their customer. Now isn't that a novel idea? When you sell to your competitor, it puts money in your cash drawer just like any other sale. In short, this is great news about Oracle and Unisys.
