The situations described and being complained about are not indicative of the industry as a whole. There are some development houses like that, but there are plenty that aren't, even within EA. For EA's part, the worst places to work are the studios that have to churn out a new sports title every year.

There's still plenty of passion in the game industry, and still plenty of excellent games. Just look at some of the recently released games: Half-Life 2, Halo 2, Doom 3, World of Warcraft, etc. There are lots of excellent titles out there made by highly skilled and motivated developers.
