Sun hardware doesn't need to run Solaris
I believe that there has been a Sun hardware version of Linux at least as far back as the 2.2 kernel. There is no mainstream hardware platform that cannot run in a Linux environment. Like anything other hardware, someone simply needs to write a driver for it if it does not already exist.
