Don't think that would work
We all know about SCO trying to be an all IP company! Even the old Xerox PARC and Bell Labs are not today, exclusively IP companies. It would be pretty difficult to just live off of Java - since IBM and others, keep wanting to make it open-source. Their servers and OS are top-rate - its a shame that anyone even looks at IBM and HP, but that's competition for ya.

Sun was also one of the major plantiffs on the European Anti-trust decision - which basically said that M$ conspired to keep its server protocols secret. By partnering with Sun, they can claim that they don't do that anyone, while the benefactor of their actions (Sun) isn't big enough to really "make them pay" in the server arena.
